For thousands of years, the Rumsien Ohlone Indians lived in the Monterey region of northern California, followed by the Spanish, the Chinese, and the Portuguese.
About the same time as the Urantia Papers came into being, Asilomar was established as the YWCA’s permanent West Coast conference grounds. Architect Julia Morgan was hired to design and oversee the 13 structures that were built in the Arts and Crafts style, honoring the beauty of the natural surroundings. Asilomar offers a peaceful oasis for educational and spiritual retreats, surrounded by the wild and natural beauty of the Monterey Coast.
The coastline at Asilomar State Beach is a State Marine Preserve, and visitors often see harbor seals and sea otters frolicking in the water there.
In nearby Monterey you will find the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Pacific Grove Butterfly Sanctuary, and just up the coast, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
The Conference Center is undergoing a $10 million rejuvenation, which will be complete just before our 2026 Conference begins (It’s almost as if it was made in anticipation of our visit!)
You may want to extend your stay so you can explore these and many other wonderful places! What a sublime place this is to do as Jesus did: worship in God’s outdoor cathedral, surrounded by the beauty of the sea and the forest.
Don’t miss out! Spaces at Asilomar are limited, and we anticipate a full house.
