    Dr. Lena Sadler (1875-1939)

Founding member of the Contact Commission

A licensed medical physician. A member of Chicago Women’s Club, Chicago Medical Society, Chicago Medical Women’s Club, Illinois State Medical Society and a fellow of the American Medical Society. Was an associate professor of Physiologic Therapeutics, associate director of the Chicago Institute of Physiologic Therapeutics and a specialist in diseases of women and children.

A tireless sociological worker giving special attention to rescue work and establishing homes for the unfortunate in Chicago’s poverty stricken neighborhoods.

Co-Lecturer with her husband on the Chautauqua Circuit starting in 1907.

Authored numerous published articles in American Magazine and the Oakland Tribune. Covered such subjects as children, motherhood and pep.

She was credited with noticing that the sleeping subject was moistening his lips and stated “Perhaps he wants to talk to us. Maybe if we ask him a question, we will get an answer.” She did so asking “How do you feel?” To everyone’s astonishment he did answer, but not with his voice. Thus starting the process that led to the “materialization” of the Urantia Book.

For many years she was the person who waited and greeted people at the front door of 533 Diversey as they arrived for the Forum meetings.
